After having a stagnant site for years, I decided it was time for a refresh. Considering that I rarely blog, I decided I would refocus the home page on marketing my skills to be able to get more freelance web development jobs. I've had a few years to think about what I wanted to do on my next site, so I sat down one day in March and drew on paper the type of layout I wanted.
I began browsing template sites to get an idea for colors and typography, and eventually come across a template I really liked. It had almost the exact layout I had already sketched on paper, so I decided to base my design on that template's colors and typography. The result is the newly launched LucasEverett.com.
However, the design isn't the only thing that has changed. Previously I was using WordPress for the blog functionality. I've been reading about the PHP framework CodeIgniter for the past year and decided now is the time to start anew and write my own back end. Wow, after getting the hang of it, it is amazingly simple to write a new web app with the CodeIgniter framework. Since I always use my own website as a testing ground for learning new technologies, I will continue adding new features to the site, many which will be invisible on the front-end.
Also, be on the lookout for me to launch two new websites that will launch together — ItsHorribleNews.com and ItsGreatNews.com. I'm still in the planning stage, but the idea is for these sites to be similar to Digg where people can post links to content on other websites. One will be focused on good news while the other will focus on bad news.
That is all I have planned for now, but I still have more ideas that could eventually come to pass, though I doubt it'll be anytime soon. I'm going to go ahead with these previously mentioned sites and hope to launch them this fall.
